How to love your clothes in a more environmentally friendly way

Did you know that 75 – 80% of the carbon footprint for a piece of clothing comes from how it is taken care of?

Spray you clothes with perfume to keep you smelling fresh…

Wearing your clothes more than once before throwing them in the dirty pile will really help your clothes as well as the environment. If you spill some food down you I would recommend cleaning the spillage with a damp cloth. You can consume up to five times less energy by wearing your clothes at least three times, washing them in cold water, and skipping the iron.

Work out whilst washing…

Yes, hand washing all the way!! It is gentle on your clothing. You don’t need as much laundry detergent or water. Plus you get a quick arm workout. But if hand washing is not for you, then wash on a gentle cool wash, this is better for the environment.

Save time and wash your clothes inside out…

Washing everything inside out helps keep the outside of your clothing (the part you see) newer and helps reduce fading and the fabric wearing out. It is also better at washing the part of your clothing that is closest to your body and therefore reducing odours.

Cold wash - you heard it…

Did you know that 90% of a washing machines power usage comes from heating the water! That leaves only 10% to power the motor and actually wash the clothes. Using the cool wash will save you money, it’s better for the environment and it means your clothes are less likely to fade.
